Why did you guys change the style (Steven Universe)?Was it because of low budgets?
Rebecca created the new designs herself. It was entirely her creative decision. The new looks of the characters are drawn by her(and inked and colored by our incredible design team).
I know there are rumors going around about our network forcing a change on us, but the new designs were completely planned to be this way. They were created and finalized long before the pilot leaked! They are supposed to be this way. CN has been incredibly supportive of Rebecca's creative control.
We are all really humbled that people got so attached to the character designs from the pilot. But keep in mind that pilots are a "test" of how a show will work. Once a pilot is complete it is up to the creator to decide what things to improve upon.
The characters in the show have the same personalities and voices and we hope that the early fans will understand, in time, that the new designs better reflect the Crystal Gems' chemistry, stories and special powers. I can't wait for you to see these episodes.
As for your second question: No. Redesigning the show had nothing to do with budget whatsoever. The budget is way higher than the pilot and our crew has been busting their humps on hundreds of incredible new backgrounds, lighting changes, and special poses.
The new designs were unceremoniously unveiled out-of-context on a Facebook page banner. Please keep in mind that the show will not be one static image on a white background- it'll be in full, fluid motion! I think the show's animation is even better than the pilot's(but i guess you'll just have to take my word on that one until you see it in motion).

Yeah I mean… if I wasn't clear enough, there is a LOT more Steven Universe that the public hasn't seen yet. It's been announced a while back that there's going to be 52 episodes in our initial order, and that's a BIG BIG amount. That's a lot of room for our character and story arcs to stretch out and get comfortable.
Shows on every network go on hiatus from time to time and it's a bummer but we're still here hard at work making lots of episodes. If you think you're frustrated that more hasn't aired, just imagine how we feel!
We'll probably talk more about the episodes to come at our SDCC panel!

I love cheesy sitcoms, so when the idea for Li'l Butler came up I instantly started working on a theme song. The show is an unholy mix of Mr. Belvedere and Webster so I tried to hit the same kind of dorky vibe!

Yeah!!! I'm gonna be at MAGFEST! We plan on doing some kind of Steven Universe panel. It'll be great!
1. I would love to end RPG World eventually, or at least restore the archives. Maybe when I'm not so freaking busy! I don't know how I'll be able to do it. it seems like every day someone comes out of the woodwork to tell me they loved it and that's much appreciated. I was in high school when I was doing that thing, and I had no idea it was so popular!

Steven Universe: Back To The Barn
On Monday January 4 new episodes of Steven Universe start airing! It's the continuation of what we informally called "The Barn Arc"!
We hadn't used the barn as a location since Space Race! The Barn is a super fun location because it's full of old junk. You can believe that there's old cars, old planes, all kinds of building materials inside.
Since they would be living there we realized that we needed to flesh out the area a little more. Here's my original sketch of what it could look like. I especially wanted to add a silo. We didn't use all of these ideas but a couple of them will show up in next week's episodes. Please watch them!!!
